What is LOSWIFT™Lactulose?
Non-Digestible Disaccharide & Well-Recognized Prebiotic
LOSWIFT™Lactulose is a disaccharide produced by the isomerization of lactose under alkaline conditions at elevated temperatures. Its chemical name is 4-O-beta-D-galactopyranosyl-D-fructose. Commercial LOSWIFT™Lactulose syrup typically contains over 50% LOSWIFT™Lactulose, approximately 30% moisture, with the remainder consisting of residual lactose and decomposition products such as fructose and galactose.
Lactulose is not broken down by human digestive enzymes and reaches the large intestine intact, where it is selectively utilized by beneficial bacteria such as Bifidobacteria. It is a well-recognized prebiotic factor.
Since the 1960s, LOSWIFT™Lactulose has been widely used in the clinical treatment of constipation and hepatic encephalopathy, establishing a long-validated safety profile as a functional sugar. In recent years, its application value in the food and pet food sectors has gained increasing attention.
