Velfibra™Resistant Dextrin is a low-molecular-weight water-soluble dietary fibre obtained through the partial hydrolysis, polymerisation and fractionation of starch, typically using non-GMO natural corn starch as the raw material. It is produced by industrially extracting and refining the indigestible fraction of roasted dextrin. With a dietary fibre content of 82% or higher, Velfibra™Resistant Dextrin belongs to the soluble dietary fibre category. It appears as a white to light-yellow powder with a clean, slightly sweet taste and excellent water solubility; a 10% aqueous solution is transparent to pale yellow with a pH of 4.0-6.0.
Because its glycosidic linkages cannot be hydrolysed by mammalian digestive enzymes in the small intestine, Velfibra™Resistant Dextrin passes intact into the large intestine, where it serves as a fermentable substrate for beneficial gut bacteria.
