What is Lactulose?

Functional Prebiotic for Gut Health

Lactulose is produced by the isomerization of lactose under alkaline conditions through heating. It contains four sugars: lactulose (lactulose), lactose, galactose, and fructose. The functional component is lactulose, also known as lactulose, lactose, or galactosyl fructoside. As a food additive, the physiological functions and value of lactulose, primarily composed of lactulose, have gained increasing importance.

Lactulose has been widely used in clinical treatments for constipation and hepatic encephalopathy. In recent years, various applications have been developed in the food field. Lactulose is manufactured from lactose as raw material and is a mixed sugar solution with lactulose as main component, known as isomerized lactose solution or lactulose solution. Currently commercially available isomerized lactose solutions contain over 50% lactulose, with approximately 30% moisture content, and other components include residual raw material lactose and a series of decomposition products such as fructose and galactose.

As a bifidus factor, lactulose provides mild sweetness with good water solubility and low calorie content, making it ideal for functional food formulations that support digestive health.
