What is Frulyte™Fructooligosaccharides?

Frulyte™Fructooligosaccharides (FOS), also known as oligofructose or sucrose-oligosaccharides, are functional oligosaccharides composed of fructose units linked by β-glycosidic bonds. They occur naturally in a variety of plants, including chicory, garlic, onions, artichokes, and bananas. Commercial FOS is primarily produced through enzymatic conversion of sucrose or extracted from chicory roots.
FOS appears as a white crystalline powder with a sweetness approximately 30-50% that of sucrose and a caloric value of only about one-third of sucrose (approximately 6.3 kJ/g). As a naturally occurring prebiotic carbohydrate, FOS is not broken down by human digestive enzymes and reaches the large intestine intact, where it is selectively fermented by beneficial bacteria such as Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus.
