What are Isomaltooligosaccharides?

Isomaltooligosaccharide (IMO) is a product made from starch or starch-based raw materials through enzymatic conversion, purification, concentration, and other processes. Its main components are isomaltose, panose, isomaltotriose, and higher oligosaccharides linked by α-1,6-glycosidic bonds.
Compared to regular sucrose, isomaltooligosaccharides have a caloric value approximately 50-60% of sucrose (approximately 2.0-2.4 kcal/g), categorized as a low-calorie sweetener. Production occurs through starch hydrolysis and transglycosylation reactions, using corn starch, potato starch, or cassava starch as raw materials.
